Oocyte donation is often required for those couples who have a problem with conceiving due to a failure of the female partner to produce eggs or oocytes.
The oocytes are usually obtained from a young woman who has had children. Sperm for the IVF may be got from the husband or the donor. Often, patients who cannot afford the cost of IVF / ICSI treatment go in for a shared donor program where one of the patients who has male factor infertility would donate some of her eggs for the use of another patient . This allows her to get her procedure done at a reduced cost .
